Wardrobe detox ... being charitable is SO this season

Charity begins in the wardrobe

HANDS up who's got clothes at home that they never wear ....

Well now's your opportunity to detox your wardrobe AND make tonnes of cash for charity, with TK Maxx's GiveGet campaign.

Simply drop your unwanted clothes (and household items) in to your local TK Maxx, where they'll be sorted and distributed to Cancer Research UK shops.

Last year the event raised a phenomenal £2.5million for the charity.

So to help kickstart your wardobe spring clean, make room for all those new season buys AND raise some cash for Cancer Research, here are celebrity stylist FAY SAWYER 's top GiveGet tips:

1. Be ruthless: if it’s been in your closet for more than six months and you haven't worn it - you won’t.

2. Get a full-length mirror and a good friend and spend some time working out what's for you and what you no longer need. It can be fun!

3. Think of your look as a whole. As obvious as it sounds, basic items that can be worn with various looks may be a bit boring but are essential.

4. Items that aren't necessarily fashion statements but just suit you are there for a reason so don’t go mad and get rid of your favourite jeans because they aren't the latest version.

5. Colours that suit you now will always suit you regardless of what’s on-trend, so if you have bought wisely it's not time to part with your personal style staples because a new colour's in Vogue.

6. Remember one person's junk is another's treasure. Next season's hippie revival or bold floral prints might be very now but not your thing.

7. Quality items will always sell. So classic pieces or vintage items that you may have been given or bought in a bit of a retail trance could be just the ticket.

8. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you feel you can’t donate vintage Chanel.
