KINGS OF THE WAVES ... British duo Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson won gold

BRITAIN'S medal rush showed no signs of slowing today as sailing duo Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson grabbed Olympic gold.

The pair won the Star class to snatch Team GB’s fourth gold — and sixth medal overall — of the sailing competition.

The pair came home in fifth place in the final race but with Sweden ending behind them it was enough to secure the gold.

Percy and Simpson trailed the Swedes by two points at the start of the double-points medal race and only needed to finish ahead of their rivals to snatch victory.

Percy said: “It’s more special because I’m doing it with my best mate of 25 years.

"To cross the line after all we’ve been through, it just adds so much more to it.”

Simpson added: “Basically we knew we’d win this time because we wanted it more than anyone else.

“It’s a fantastic feeling. There’s no words to describe it.”
