BRIT OF HAUL RIGHT ... Christine Ohuruogu flies the flag

Sweet sixteen

CHRISTINE OHURUOGU grabbed 400 metres glory to take our tally to a staggering 16 golds — and now British chiefs have set their sights on winning TWENTY.

Ohuruogu’s triumph followed golds for cycling’s triple hero Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton and sailor Paul Goodison.

But BOA boss Simon Clegg said: “We have a number of people still to compete who are quite capable of winning gold. We continue to go from strength to strength.”

The great haul of China is Team GB’s best performance since claiming a British all-time record of 56 golden gongs in London a century ago.

Hoy is the first Brit to seal three golds at one summer Games since swimmer Henry Taylor in 1908.

But there could be MORE to come. Phillips Idowu is favourite to win the men’s triple jump and Shanaze Read the women’s BMX cycling.

Tim Brabants is a frontrunner in flatwater kayaking and there are possible gold chances for Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson in sailing’s Star class and Nick Dempsey in the RS:X windsurfing.

Boxer David Price, the 4x400 metres women’s relay team and open water swimmers David Davies and Cassie Patten also have a shout.
